Kathy Huang - Director, Producer
As Producer, Director, and Director of Photography, Kathy Huang has worked extensively with underrepresented communities to document social and humanitarian issues. Her credits include Jaywalking (Best Documentary winner at the PlanetOut Awards), Night Visions (Tribeca Film Festival, SILVERDOCS, recipient of the War and Peace Award from the Media That Matters Film Festival), and Miss Chinatown USA (Tribeca Film Festival, broadcast on regional PBS stations). Tales of the Waria will be Huang's debut feature-length documentary.
Shot with the help of the local waria community, a mixture of verite scenes and intimate interviews takes us into their homes, salons, and nightclubs. Tales of the Waria is an attempt to bring the full richness and complexity of the waria’s perspective to mainstream audiences.
