The life of a Chinese-Canadian law student takes an unexpected turn when she is bequeathed a mobile photography studio and discovers her true passion through the taking of family portraits.
Julia Kwan - Director, Screenwriter
Julia Kwan is a Vancouver-based filmmaker who made her feature film debut in 2005 with Eve & The Fire Horse, based on her Writer’s Guild of Canada award-winning script. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and won the Special Jury Price for World Cinema at the Sundance Film Festival. Most recently, she completed a live action/animated short film for the 2010 Winter Olympics, produced by National Film Board/VANOC.
Shan Tam - Producer
Shan Tam has produced two feature co-productions between Canada and Hong Kong - Young Offenders and Lunch with Charles. Tam recently wrapped production of the first ever Chinese-Australian co-production The Last Dragon.
Michael Parker - Producer
Michael Parker’s producing credits include Eve & the Fire Horse (Sundance Special Jury Prize), Young Offenders, Paper Moon Affair, Hong Kong Express, and Lunch with Charles (Genie nominated, Leo Award winner), which he also wrote and directed.
Portraits From the Other Side of the World explores the unique dynamics and the small moments in a family’s life. The film will marry two distinct styles – lyricism with realism. Most of the scenes are seen through the eyes of a voyeur, stealing glimpses into other people’s families.
