TFI New Media Fund Overview

Submissions closed. The deadline was May 25th, 2011.

Please read the official rules and regulations before you start, and be sure to consult the frequently asked questions. Here’s how it works:

  1. Register or Login - Before beginning an application, you must first register for a login. If you have applied for any TFI program this year or in the past, you may already have one and should use the one already registered (if possible).
  2. Online application - Applications are program-specific, so please confirm that you are completing an application for the TFI New Media Fund. If you are simultaneously applying to another program, please fill out the appropriate online application separately. You can save your work come back later.
  3. Additional Required Materials - In addition to the online application, you must provide the following additional materials where applicable

  4. Agreement and Release - By clicking this box, you agree to these terms, including the Rules and Regulations and the Application Release. You must click this box in order to submit your application.
  5. Submit - Once complete, you must click the submit button in order for your application to be considered. Please note that you may no longer make any changes once an application is submitted.

Applicant and Crew

Name, contact information, headshot and bio is required for all key crew members (Director, Screenwriter, Producer, EP, Editor, DP where applicable).

Project Information

Please provide a one to two sentence summary of your project. Need help writing your logline? We have suggestions!

A log line is a brief summary of movie, often providing both a synopsis of the program's plot, and an emotional "hook" to stimulate interest.

Please provide a long synopsis of the entire plot of your project. The synopsis should give a clear overview of what happens in your story, introduce all of the major characters and cover all of the major plot points. For cross-platform projects, please include how the story unfolds across platforms, and describe any audience interaction.

Please describe the target platforms/formats your project will incorporate, for example interactive website, game, mobile app, virtual world etc. Describe the project from a user experience perspective and outline the interactive elements in the context of the story and the project goals.

If the film has been or will be shot in a language other than English, it must be available subtitled in English.

If your project includes a film designed for traditional distribution please provide brief details and length. Please note we do not require a standalone film.

 

Projected length when completed. Certain programs only accept feature-length films of 70 minutes or longer. Please consult rules and regulation for details.

If you are the sole rights holder, enter SELF. Otherwise, specify the name and company of the project's primary rights holder.

 
 
 

Please name and describe any companies, organizations, or individuals who have provided financing to date (including detail of funding provided).

Please describe the social issue your project is dealing with (no more than 5 words).

List the complete project history to date. What stage is your project currently at? Is your project designed/prototyped? Has any of the technology been built? For any traditional film component; include any territories that have been pre-sold for theatrical and/or television broadcast; list companies/financiers that you have pitched to and markets or forums you have pitched the project at; please include any sales agents or representatives commissioned, including territories repped by each.

a) Outreach/Engagement: Briefly describe any outreach efforts planned or already in progress. How will your project engage audiences? b) Distribution/Marketing: Briefly describe the intended distribution strategy for your project across all relevant platforms.

Briefly explain the creative vision for your finished project, concentrating on tone, style, social issue and relevant technologies. You may also wish to describe your motivation for wanting to create this project, as well as any decisions made with regards to platforms/formats etc.

Please provide a timeline explaining the sequence of steps required for the completion of the project. Please take into account the project’s current status. All projects should demonstrate clear long-term goals and a realistic sense of when they will be achieved.

Provide a detailed account of how much grant money your team is requesting ($50,000 to $100,000), how it will be used towards the realization of your project, and how you will allocate the funds. NOTE: the Selection Committee will determine the actual amount awarded to grantees.

Please outline any specific non-fiscal support from TFI that would help to progress your project towards completion. These might include mentorship, networking, workshops, NGO partnerships, or help in securing a developer, technologist or designer etc.

Files should be no larger than 5MB. We can accept only the following formats:

  • Portable Acrobat Format(PDF)
  • Microsoft Word
  • Microsoft Excel
  • Rich Text Format (RTF)

An uploaded copy of the most recent draft of the treatment or proposal is required of all projects. Treatments or proposals must be at least 3 pages in length, and detail the story, characters, plot points and interactive or cross-platform elements of your project.

Footage

TFI requires submissions of footage and/or completed films to be sent via a traceable method (certified mail, FedEx, UPS, etc). Please send the following material(s) by DVD as instructed below. You may also submit an URL to a online version of your clip. However, the applicant is responsible for keeping the online video available for the duration of the application process, and the URL may not be changed once the application has been submitted. The applicant is responsible for keeping the video available for the duration of the application process. TFI is not responsible for any service disruption cause by your online video hosting provider.

Project Footage (As applicable) - Footage related to the current project (e.g. scene assemblage, trailer, teaser, etc.) or a rough cut, as applicable, is required of all films in production or beyond. We encourage you to include as much footage as possible, with a minimum of 7 minutes.

If you are submitted material in DVD format, please send two (2) DVD copies of each footage listed above. The DVD should be labeled with the submission number, project title, running time, applicant’s name(s) and contact information.

Please share any relevant notes that contextualize or describe the footage provided.

If the video is accessible online, please provide the URL. Please note, once the application is submitted, all submitted material may not be changed. The applicant is responsible for keeping the video available for the duration of the application process.

Agreement and Release

In connection with my submission of a completed Entry Form (“Entry Form”), if entry free is required, a fee payable to Tribeca Film Institute Inc. (“TFI”) and an original media project (such media project, together with any other ideas or material submitted by me, collectively, the “Submission Material”) for entry in the TFI New Media Fund (the “Program”), I hereby agree that:

  1. I have read, understood and complied with this release, the Entry Form and the Rules and Regulations of the Program. I understand that my participation in the Program is subject to all the terms and conditions stated in this release, in the Rules and Regulations of the Program, and in the Program Grant Agreement, which I will execute if I am selected to participate in the Program.
  2. I understand that TFI is not obligated to either examine or use my Submission Material or to invite me to participate in the Program.
  3. I understand that the Submission Material will be kept confidential. Nonetheless, I also understand that TFI and persons and entities affiliated with, related to, or connected with TFI and/or the Program (each, a “TFI Entity” and collectively the “TFI Entities”) operate other programs and events and may be developing material that may be similar to the Submission Material in theme, idea, plot, format or other respects. I acknowledge that the TFI Entities will not be liable for any claim, loss, damage or expense (including, without limitation, attorneys’ fees and disbursements) arising out of or relating to the Submission Material, this release, and/or my participation in the Program (if I am selected) and I release the TFI Entities from any such claims.
  4. I am the sole author and owner of all Submission Material and have the full right and authority to submit the Submission Material to TFI. The Submission Material is original with me, and the submission of the Submission Material will not violate any law or any right of any individual or entity.
  5. This release will be governed by the laws of the State of New York and any disputes relating to this release will be resolved solely in the courts located in New York City.
